Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) successfully hosted the 30th edition of Exercise Suman
Warrior, a Five Power Defence Arrangements (FPDA) multilateral exercise. Held
from 5 to 14 July 2021, Exercise Suman Warrior was conducted virtually, and saw
132 representatives from the FPDA member-nations participate in a command post
exercise focused on the planning of land-based operations.
of the 2nd Singapore Infantry Brigade, Colonel Mohamed Feroz led the SAF
delegation this year. Speaking on the importance of the exercise, he said, “The
conduct of Exercise Suman Warrior amidst the COVID-19 situation highlights the
strong commitment of member-nations to the FPDA as well as the resilience of
the Arrangements. The exercise also allows us to learn from one another and
enhance interoperability among the armed forces of member-nations”.
3. Formed in 1971, the FPDA has evolved over the years to meet the
challenges of an
increasingly complex contemporary security environment. The FPDA is
commemorating its 50th anniversary this year, and member-nations have planned a
line-up of exercises, conferences and activities. Apart from Exercise Suman
Warrior, the SAF regularly participates in other FPDA exercises such as
Exercise Bersama Lima and Exercise Bersama Shield. These exercises are
important to facilitate the sharing of knowledge and enhance the
interoperability between the FPDA defence forces.
