1. Minister for Defence Dr Ng Eng Hen
opened the Counter-Terrorism Information Facility (CTIF) today. The CTIF is a
multilateral, inter-agency facility that brings together like-minded countries
to share intelligence and provide early warning against terrorism in the
region. While much of the CTIF’s operations remain classified for regional
security reasons, CTIF is crucial to synergise counter-terrorism efforts with
the use of collective intelligence and data-driven methods.
2. Speaking at the inauguration
ceremony, Dr Ng said that the threat of terrorism remains high and increasingly
fluid as terror networks have grown in sophistication. Dr Ng added that the
CTIF initiative was only possible because of the invaluable contributions of
all partners, which demonstrates our collective resolve to deal with terrorism.
3. Dr Ng also commended the CTIF on its
achievements in detecting the spread of extremist ideologies in the region,
which has led to follow-up actions by regional security agencies.
4. Since operationalisation in January
2021, CTIF has produced timely intelligence products with Partner Nations, and
assisted the region in the collective effort against terrorism. Dr Ng met
representatives from the Partner Nations at the inauguration ceremony and
thanked them for their strong support.
